When Is a GST Registration Amendment Required?

A GST registration amendment is required whenever there is a change in any particulars of a registered taxpayer, such as business details, address, or authorized signatory information.

What Are the Types of GST Amendments?

GST amendments are broadly classified into two categories:

1. Core Field Amendments

Core fields are details that require approval from the Proper Officer.

Approval generally takes up to 15 working days. Core field changes include:

  • Change in the legal name of the business
  • Change in the address of the principal place of business
  • Change in additional places of business

2. Non-Core Field Amendments

Non-core field changes do not require approval from the Proper Officer and can be updated online by the registered person. These include all registration details other than core fields.

Details That Cannot Be Amended:

  • PAN details cannot be modified, as GST registration is PAN-based
  • Change of place of business from one state to another is not permitted under the same GST registration

How Long Does It Take to Complete a GST Amendment?

Typically, GST amendments are completed within 10 to 15 working days. Non-core field changes are usually updated immediately or within a few days, while core field amendments may take longer due to verification and approval by the GST department. Processing time may vary depending on the nature of the amendment and departmental review requirements.
