Why Is Filing a GST Refund Application Required?
Filing a GST refund application is essential under the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, whenever a registered taxpayer has paid excess GST or accumulated input tax credit beyond their actual tax liability. In such cases, the taxpayer is entitled to claim a refund by submitting a refund application through the GST portal. Filing the refund application ensures compliance with GST regulations and enables the recovery of excess tax paid, helping businesses manage their funds efficiently.
What Is GST Refund?
A GST refund is the process through which a registered taxpayer claims back excess GST paid when the tax liability is lower than the GST already paid. In various situations—such as excess input tax credit, zero-rated supplies, or excess tax payment—a taxpayer can apply for a GST refund by submitting a refund application on the GST portal.
Why Is a GST Refund Important?
GST refunds are important because excess tax payments often result in a blockage of the company’s or assessee’s funds. Claiming a GST refund helps release this blocked capital, improves cash flow, and ensures better financial management for the business.
