Documentation
Gather and submit all required documents along with the necessary forms. The name change process typically takes 7–10 days, depending on the Registrar of Companies (ROC) processing time.
File RUN Form
Submit the RUN (Reserve Unique Name) Form with the ROC for name approval. You can suggest up to two preferred names in a single form, along with the prescribed fees.
Name Approval
Once the ROC approves the proposed name, an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) must be held, as the name change requires the members’ approval through a special resolution.
File Form MGT-14
Within 30 days of passing the special resolution, file Form MGT-14 with the ROC to submit a copy of the resolution approving the name change.
File Form INC-24
Submit Form INC-24 to the ROC within 30 days of passing the special resolution to obtain approval for the name change from the Central Government (power delegated to the ROC).
Certificate of Incorporation
Upon approval, the ROC will issue a new Certificate of Incorporation (Form INC-11). The company name becomes effective from the date of issuance of this certificate.
Is it a Good Idea to Change a Company Name?
Whether changing your company name is a good idea depends on your brand’s current recognition and how familiar your customers are with it. Existing customers may not be affected, as they already trust and recognize your business. However, it’s important to consider the long-term impact on brand identity, marketing, and future growth before making a decision.
